Susie Redman

​Susie has collected textiles on her travels in Europe, India and Nepal, and since childhood has knitted and designed garments and rag rugs. When she was given a traditional Swedish floor loom a few years ago she started upon a weaving journey.

Susie is a founding member of Fibreshed Scotland and is committed to creating sustainable textiles to wear and for the home. Susie enjoys weaving with natural fibres such as linen, cotton and British Lambswool. All pieces are handwoven and finished in her Burntisland studio.

​Her inspiration comes from Scandinavian textile design and colour palette.

Icelandic and Norwegian wool on a Linen Warp

TRACKS was inspired by the heritage 19th century rail track which runs across the wildflower meadow at the Platform Studio, Burntisland, where I have my weaving studio.

In the springtime the meadow garden is pierced with Cowslips, followed by Lady’s Bedstraw, Vipers Bugloss and many others.

 The structure of this weave gives a sense of movement in the progression of the woven blocks of charcoal Icelandic wool, an abstraction that resonates with the positioning of the historic rail tracks.

 Along with the blocks of charcoal yarn, Norwegian rug yarn from the heritage breed, Spelsau is used to add touches of colour reflecting that found in the local natural environment, sea, sky, lichens and the meadow flowers that surround the rail track.
